Asbestosis Compensation Claims
Asbestosis is a breathing disorder
caused by inhaling high levels of asbestos fibres prolonged accumulation
of these fibres in your lungs can lead to scarring of lung tissue
and diminished breathing capacity
Asbestos is the name given to a number of naturally-occurring
fibrous materials that's resistant to heat and corrosion when they
are disturbed and breathed in they cause serious health problems.
They affect mainly the lungs and the lung linings
The three most common types of microscopic fibres are
- Chrysotile
- Amosite
- Crocidolite.
Asbestos was mined and commonly used in the construction
of many buildings and used in manufacturing industries in the UK.
It is still present in many buildings today and until recently was
used in many trades and industries.
If you have been exposed to asbestos in the course
of your employment post 1950, either directly or indirectly you
may be able to bring a claim against your former employers.
The dangers of asbestos were identified many years
ago and your employers should have taken steps to ensure your health
and safety and that you were working in a safe environment. If the
exposure was due to the negligence of your employers you may be
able to claim compensation for your condition
Many workers who have come into contact with asbestos have developed
conditions such as
- Mesothelioma
- Asbestosis;
- Pleural plaques
- Pleural thickening;
- Lung Cancer
The most common symptoms of asbestos related conditions
are chest problems which result in breathlessness, coughing and
physical impairment. These conditions affect either the lung cavities
or the lung lining. We also represent relatives of those who have
already died as a result of an asbestos related disease.
It is not enough just to have worked with asbestos
and it does not automatically follow that you will definitely develop
an asbestos-related condition. The greater your exposure to asbestos
the higher the risk of developing a condition.
Symptoms will not normally start to manifest for
approx 10 years but the fibres can lay dormant for many years after
this.
Asbestosis Claims If you have
not worked directly with asbestos but you have been exposed by others
working close to you, you can still pursue a claim for asbestosis
providing we can prove that the exposure was sufficiently negligent
and in excess of levels considered safe at the time
